Dear Customer and Consignors, In case you haven't heard, it has been an extremely difficult time for retailers since the pandemic bagan. Retailer bankruptcies have included Neiman Marcus, JCPenney and Stage Stores. Men’s Wearhouse, Jos. A. Bank Clothiers, Pier 1, and Brooks Brothers are on the bankruptcy bubble as they seek help from lenders. It is predicted that more than 50% of all retail stores and restaurants will be closed by the end of the year. Steinmart, Chico’s, New York and Company, (just to name a few) are all closing their doors in our area. But the good news is that The Fashion Safari in Port Orange still carries all those brands for less. When you shop with us you help put money back into your community and not the pockets of the big box department store CEOs. Tips to help you cope

The CDC offers up a number of suggestions for taking care of yourself and others during this difficult time, noting that while everyone reacts differently in times of strife, the stress and anxiety the outbreak can cause is valid.

The CDC’s recommendations for reducing stress include:

• Limiting your consumption of news and social media about the pandemic.
• Taking time to participate in physical exercise daily. Even within your home, you can stretch, do yoga, or follow along with an aerobic fitness routine from YouTube.
• Eat a balanced and healthy diet.
• Get enough sleep.
• Avoid alcohol and drugs.
• Dedicate time to relaxation when possible and/or participate in an activity you enjoy.
• Take time to talk with friends on the phone or through video chat/FaceTime.

Things to do while stuck inside

Remaining inside is a good way to protect yourself and others from the coronavirus, but if you're accustomed to being active, it can also lead to boredom and stir craziness. So here are a few ideas to help you pass the time until it's safe to resume your normal routine.

1. Clean that closet and those dresser drawers once and for all. We'll be ready for your Spring and Summer items once we re-open.
2. Watch all the really long movies you've avoided until now.
3. Write actual letters to family and friends.
4. Try out at-home aerobics or yoga videos. 
5. Take time to reflect: What have you accomplished in the last year? What goals are you setting for yourself in the next year?
6. Finally get around to fixing that broken door knob and loose tile or cleaning scuffed up walls.
7. Throw out all your too-old makeup and products. 
8. Go through your camera roll, pick your favorite pics from the past year and make a photo book or order framed versions online. 
9. Buy gift cards from your favorite local businesses to help keep them in business while we quarantine.
10. Dye your hair a new color. No one else needs to see it if you don't like it.
11. Rearrange your furniture to make it seem like your home is a totally different space. 
12. Organize your spice rack alphabetically or get crazy and do it by cuisine.
13. Make lists of all the museums, sporting events and concerts you want to visit when they finally reopen.
14. Consider donating money to food banks to help families struggling to get meals.
15. Foster a pet now that you have more time to devote to it's care.
16. Listen to those old CDs that you've had packed away forever.
17. Re-organize your pantry and throw out anything that is expired. Do the same with your medicine cabinets and under the bathroom sink.
18. Reach out and make a phone call to an old friend or classmate.
19. Sleep. Get lots of it.
20. Remember that this too shall pass.

We lose weight. We gain weight. Our preferences change as time goes by and we just get bored with wearing the same old fashions. I finally did it...

As the owner of a consignment shop, and someone who inspects hundreds of garments on an almost daily basis, the last thing I want to do when I come home from work (or on my day off) is to clean my closet. But the start of a new year, and the lack of closet space, finally inspired me to tackle the dreaded project once and for all. And I seriously have to say that I feel like such a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders and I absolutely love my emptier more-organized closet.

I'm not going to lie and tell you that it was easy for me because it wasn't. I spent the majority of the day working nonstop on my closet. It was exhausting but well worth the time spent. My new closet is now filled with garments that I truly love and that actually fit me "right now". Here's how I did it:

I began by pulling out everything in my closet, trying it on, and then asking myself the following questions:

• Do I really like it?
• Does it truly look good on me?
• Does it fit me really well (right now)?
• Do I feel comfortable wearing it?

If the answer was "no" to any of those questions, then I immediately took the items and divided them into three piles that I labeled: 

• donate 
• consign 
• cut up for dust rags anything that was too worn, stained, or pilled

At the end of my journey, I honestly have to say that I felt so proud of myself for finally tackling that dreaded chore and for taking action towards starting the new year off in a positive direction. I hope this message inspires you to do the same!
